Ironic Twist
seeking irony, because sarcasm clashes with my outfit

If you're in the mood for art tonight, check out Bethesda Art Walk. Yeah, it's not the perfect night to be wandering around Bethesda, but you can always keep dry by limiting your evening to Fraser Gallery's reception, going on from 6-9. (Thanks to MG for the heads up on this one.)
As for the rest of the weekend, DCists recommends some weekend activities here. My weekend will involve -- in addition to the gallery reception -- drunken board games with friends, a "wear your ugly Christmas sweater" party hosted by my fabulous friend AS, and seeing my little brother, who comes home from school tomorrow.
I leave you with a song by a band called Output, who make me think of Soft Cell and New Order: "let's get outa here" (Jr. Sanchez Remix)
Morning commute music: The Stills, Logic Will Break Your Heart. (Listen to it here.)
I realize the album is a downer, seeing as it's about war and hate and failed relationships and such, but listening to it makes me feel peaceful for some reason, possibly because the negativity of the lyrics is so perfectly wrapped up in the beauty of the music.
Last night three quarters of the bluestate DJ collective ventured out to iPod Jukebox to play some songs and hand out flyers. One of us wore faux fur. Okay, that was me. Gate 54 was far less crowded than last time, which was nice because you could hear the music better and it wasn't hot. And we got to eat some of the leftover cake from a Cakelove tasting that had gone on prior to iPod Jukebox. I think it was orange-cranberry buttercream. It was amazing. Luckily my birthday is coming up and I have an excuse to eat Cakelove cake. Anyway, back to the music. I played only two songs: Starsailor's "Four to the Floor" and Belle & Sebastian's "Your Cover's Blown." A visibly intoxicated young woman (euphemism for drunk chick) got very excited when "Your Cover's Blown" came on. That made me happy. WeirdCurves and DCSOB also participated, as did catherine and Mr. Out of Step / DC. Michael didn't have a chance to prepare a set, but he was a trooper and came out anyway. It was great to meet Chrisafer and Brian.

I'm already sick of Christmas music, but I couldn't resist checking out Snowden's Christmas EP, because I (correctly) assumed that this band isn't one to force "Christmas cheer" on their fans. So if you like your holiday music atmospheric, pretty, a bit detached and a tad cynical, here are the EP's three songs for you to download:
"I'll take note / put on my coat / leave you to read what I wrote / So sorry you never wanted me / but that's what made me want the gold medal"
-- The Donnas, "The Gold Medal"
I was pretty excited when I got it in the mail last night because I liked the album when I streamed it from VH1's Hear Music First but wasn't sure I wanted to spend money on it. I like it. A lot. It would have been worth the money. I'm going to review it for betterPropaganda once I have some time.

Aack, I'm really busy today, so no celebrity gossip for you. Work blows more than usual. Two more people resigned today. But Smith lent me Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose and that's made my day a lot better.
MG and I stopped by WAG last night, but it was still dead at 11:30 and we were both too tired to stick around and wait for it to pick up. It was good to see Erica, though, and the greyhounds are always tasty. I haven't been keeping up with posting quotes of the week, but Erica had a good one last night. On men: "If you want to surprise me [by not turning out to be a liar, jerk, etc.], bless you."
I was listening to WHFS while driving home last night and realized that rock radio is pretty listenable right now. I heard Franz Ferdinand's "This Fire," Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Dogs Die in Hot Cars' "I Love You Cause I Have To" almost all in a row. Not bad.
